What equipment would be useful for a child with a vision impairment who has additional needs?
All the same equipment that any child with a vision impairment would find helpful would benefit a child who also has additional needs, see What assistive technology is available for my child with a vision impairment? and Is there any equipment available to assist my child with a vision impairment?
In addition to the equipment detailed in above entries you could also consider:
- switch operated toys and appliances
- communication devices that speak when buttons are pressed
- communication books - books that have pictures, raised symbols, print or braille that a child can use to express their thoughts and feelings. Consider making one yourself so that you are able to make it specific to your child.
