How can I challenge discrimination by a further or higher education provider?
Hopefully your experience of college or university will be a positive one, but if things don’t go quite as planned and you think that you've been treated unfairly because of your vision impairment by a further or higher education provider, such as a college or university, you can complain using the Equality Act 2010.
Your first step, if not done so already, should be to approach the disability/learning support services at the college or university as they may be able to help you resolve the situation.
If this does not resolve your issue, you can make a written complaint following the college or university’s complaints procedure. They should make reasonable adjustments to any complaints procedures as necessary. You can write your own complaint using guidance from our toolkit on Challenging discrimination by a further or higher education provider. Many disputes can be resolved through making an internal complaint.
If making a complaint doesn't resolve the issue, you may be able to take your complaint to an external body. These are different for further and higher education providers and may depend on the location of the education provider within the UK.
You can find out more and download a challenging discrimination by a further or higher education provider on RNIB's Challenging discrimination webpage.
