How can I find an accessible sports or activity club for my child with a vision impairment?
You can use the British Blind Sport activity finder to locate VI friendly activities in your area, it allows you to filter by activity, age, sight level and postcode/distance. The database covers over 30 different sports and physical activities.
You can also use RNIB’s Sightline directory to search for specific activities in your area or contact your local sight loss charity or society, which should be able to advise if there are any local sports groups near you or people interested in forming a group.
If you live in London, Metro Blind Sport, a London based Sports and Social Club for blind and partially sighted people of all ages, have listings of events and activities.
If there are no accessible clubs or groups near you, don’t be put off approaching clubs that may not be accessible. British Blind Sport has a range of guides about making sports accessible, including thier See Sport Differently toolkit
They may also be able to get funding from their local government to help with any costs for things like special equipment or adaptions.
