Should I tell a potential employer about my sight loss when applying for jobs?
It is up to you to decide if, and at what point in applying for a job, you let an employer know that you have sight loss. Employers have a duty under the Equality Act (Disability Discrimination Act in Northern Ireland) to make reasonable adjustments, but this only applies if the employer knows that you are disabled or could reasonably be expected to know that you are disabled. If you need an employer to make a reasonable adjustment to the recruitment process (e.g. a large print application form or braille interview materials), then you should carefully consider disclosing your disability.
You can find out more information about the Equality Act and Disability Discrimination Acts on RNIB's Equality Act and Disability Discrimination Act webpages.
