Do you have any advice on having eye surgery if you have a learning disability?
Adults with learning disabilities are ten times more likely to have sight loss but are less likely to have eye surgery. Sometimes their sight may get worse until they have an operation. This can affect the support they might need. SeeAbility have a produced an eye surgery support plan to get people with a learning disability ready for eye surgery, which can be shared with carers and the hospital too.
The plan covers easy to understand information about what to expect, how to get prepared, providing consent and understanding what it means, after care and information about who will be involved in the surgery.
Further information including copies of the guide can be found on the SeeAbility website.
