Do you have any tips on preparing for a sight check / eye examination if you have a learning disability?
Any optometrist should be able to test anybody with a learning disability with the right approach. Let them know about any reasonable adjustments needed when booking the appointment. There are also opticians who can do home visits.
It can be useful to spend a little time preparing for the appointment. Knowing what to tell the optometrist can help you get more out an appointment. For example, it would be useful for them to know about previous eye care or diagnoses, any medication taken, see any glasses worn now or in the past and if parts of the test (such as bright lights, dark rooms or close contact) may be difficult.
You can find useful information such as where to find the most suitable optician and downloadable easy read forms to use before and after a visit on the SeeAbility website.
