If I see someone with a white stick who looks like they want to cross a road, should I take them across?
Always offer to help! Introduce yourself first and then ask the person if they want any help. If they do need help then let them take your arm and try to find a safe crossing to use together. Let them know where you're crossing so they can remember it for next time and don't forget to ask if they need help to get somewhere else afterwards!
Many blind or partially sighted people are confident in getting out and about, particularly along routes that they use often, so don't be offended if they don't take you up on your offer to guide them or help them cross a road.
Further information about guiding a blind or partially sighted person can be found on RNIB's Guiding a blind or partially sighted person webpage.
