Why can I no longer get my favourite radio station on medium wave?
The BBC have been closing Medium Wave (MW) transmitters across the UK which no longer offer sufficient value for money for licence fee payers.
The BBC’s intention to close MW transmitters was first announced ten years ago in 2011 and began in 2018. They were continued through 2020 across Scotland, Wales, and England. The BBC are now moving onto the next phase with a further set of closures across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland in May and June 2021.
Further information on why the closures are taking place and the radio stations affected can be found on the BBC Media Centre Blog.
