What is legal aid and how can I find a legal aid adviser?
Legal aid helps you with the costs of legal advice, family mediation and representation in a court or tribunal. Legal aid is intended to help with issues such as being at risk of losing your home, being discriminated against or being accused of committing a crime.
You’ll usually need to show that you cannot afford to pay for it yourself and you may have to pay some money towards the legal costs of your case or pay costs back later.
Further information about legal aid including a find a legal aid adviser search facility can be found on the GOV.uk Legal aid: Overview webpages. There are also links to information for Scotland and Northern Ireland where the rules are different.
