What is the free directory enquiries service for people with sight loss?
If you're not able to read or hold a telephone directory, due to sight loss or other disability, you can get free directory enquiries via the enquiries number 195.
Call 0800 587 0195 to request an application form. Your form will need to be countersigned by a professional who knows you, such as a doctor, nurse or other medical practitioner, but not a social worker. You can use the free service whether or not BT is your telephone provider.
Once you have successfully signed up to the service, all you do is dial 195 from a registered number, you can then speak to an operator who will find the number you require. You'll still have to pay for the subsequent call if you ask to be connected.
The service is available for landlines and mobile phones.
