What is a Braille notetaker?
Braille notetakers are portable devices designed for reading and writing documents, taking notes, managing your schedule and browsing information. They connect to the internet and usually have a braille keyboard and refreshable braille display as standard. They often come with additional software applications that allow them to be used for school, office or personal tasks.
Some of these devices use a Perkins-style Braille input. “Perkins-style" is the term given to inputs that reflect the standard keyboard of the mechanical Braille writer developed by the Perkins School for the Blind, with three keys on the right and three on the left, divided by a space bar. A QWERTY keyboard is the type of input used on personal computers. The listed devices either have one of these inputs or a hybrid of both.
