Can I get help with decorating and small home improvement tasks?
Money Help
If you need help with paying for redecorating, these options may help:
- Dulux community repaint – can provide part and full containers of affordable, leftover paint to individuals, groups and organisations. Find your nearest scheme on the Dulux community repaint page.
- Your local authority may be able to help you with adapting, improving or repairing your home via a loan or grant. It may also be able to provide the labour, tools or materials to help you carry out the work. Each local authority has its own rules around what support it can provide and who qualifies for the support. Further information about the support you may be able to get can be found on the Citizens Advice Bureau website.
- Use websites such as Lightning Reach and Turn2Us to find out if you may be eligible for support via a grant.
Physical help
If you need physical help with a job, look on sites such as Nextdoor, Gumtree, Trust a Trader, Bark, Task Rabbit and Neighbours. You need to register to use these sites, but once you have joined, you can search for services local to you. Most of these sites also have reviews or testimonies left by previous customers, enabling you to get an idea of their reliability.
Task Rabbit is especially useful as it allows you to search for help with specific things such as furniture assembly, TV mounting and other smallish jobs.
