What is the BT digital switch over?

The UK’s landline telephone network is being decommissioned. This is not just a change for BT, but an industry-wide upgrade to digital phone lines. Companies like Sky, Virgin, and Vodafone are all part of this transition, ensuring that everyone is included in the change. This is because some parts of the network are very old, and as a result, parts are scarce, and the network itself is very power-hungry.

The new upgrade will bring a more resilient, sustainable, and energy efficient network. This reassurance is backed by the successful implementation of this technology in other countries.

You'll only need a BT Smart Hub 2 – If you don’t already have the right hub, BT will send one out before they make the switch. There will be no change to any current broadband cables or service. If un-sure, then contact BT directly on 0800 800 150.

BT have until January 2027 to get everyone switched over to the new platform.
