What is the BT digital switch over?

The UK’s landline telephone network is being decommissioned. This is not just a change for BT, but an industry-wide upgrade to digital phone lines. Companies like Sky, Virgin, and Vodafone are all part of this transition, ensuring that everyone is included in the change. This is because some parts of the network are very old, and as a result, parts are scarce, and the network itself is very power-hungry.

The new home phone service runs on the broadband network. It offers lots of benefits and improved features over the existing system, like three way calling, voicemail and advanced spam and nuisance call blocking. This is a once in a generation upgrade to ensure that everyone stays connected now and into the future.

You will still be able to use their landline as they do today. Over 99% of existing handsets already work with Digital Voice. You'll just need to plug your exisiting phone into the broadband hub instead of the wall socket.

BT have until January 2027 to get everyone switched over to the new platform. For full details of the switchover contact BT's customer care team on 0300 1234 150.
